January 6, 2014

NEW YORK, NY (January 6, 2014) — The Arcus Foundation announced today that Thomas W. Nichols has joined the Foundation as Vice President of Finance and Operations.

Nichols will be responsible for the Foundation’s financial management strategy, operational policies and procedures, and grants management.

“Tom’s depth of experience in finance and his familiarity with conservation issues position him well to make a great contribution at Arcus, and we couldn’t be happier to have him join our leadership team,” said Kevin Jennings, Arcus’ Executive Director.

Prior to joining Arcus, Nichols was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance and Administration at the Heinz Center in Washington, DC, a nonpartisan non-profit dedicated to improving the scientific and economic foundation for environmental policy. At the Center, Nichols led a team comprising financial management, grants management, human resources, information technology and administration.

Prior to the Heinz Center, Nichols served as Chief Financial Officer at the African Wildlife Foundation and, earlier, at the World Wildlife Fund.

Nichols, a Certified Public Accountant, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA. He serves on the Boards of Netcentric Campaigns, the Sitar Arts Center, and The Peter Fox Project, of which he is a founding member.

Founded in 2000 by Jon Stryker, the Arcus Foundation is a private grantmaking institution. Arcus’ mission is to achieve social justice that is inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity and race, and to ensure conservation and respect of the great apes. The Foundation works globally and has offices in New York City and Cambridge, UK.
