Animal Protection of New Mexico Fights for Research Chimps' Future

October 19, 2010
Arcus grantee Animal Protection of New Mexico (APNM) is leading a campaign to save more than 200 chimpanzees, currently safely housed by the Alamogordo Primate Facility, from the federal government’s plan to put them back into lives of invasive research.

Animal Protection of New Mexico is leading a campaign to halt the transfer of these chimpanzees and has secured the support of New Mexico leaders Governor Bill Richardson and Senator Tom Udall. In addition, efforts are being supported by several national organizations including Jane Goodall Institute, Humane Society of the United States, New England Anti-Vivisection Society and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and endorsed by a number of sanctuaries and other organizations interested in the welfare of these chimpanzees.
