Kalamazoo College Receives $2.1 Million Grant From Arcus Foundation to Launch Social Justice Leadership Center

Kalamazoo College has received a $2.1 million project grant from the Arcus Foundation to help launch the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College. The grant will fund the Center's programming plans for the first two years of operation, as well as the hiring of an executive director, academic director, and support staff. Read more about the social justice leadership center and how it closely aligns with the mission of the Arcus Foundation, which was founded by Jon Stryker, a "K" College trustee and 1982 alumnus.

Federal Policy Changes and Initiatives Protect LGBT Americans

Recent significant federal policy changes and initiatives have enhanced protections and services for LGBT Americans. President Obama has signed federal LGBT-inclusive hate crimes legislation into law. The US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced initiatives to ensure that HUD’s core housing programs are open to all, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. The US Dept. of Health and Human Services announced plans to establish the first national resource center to assist communities in their efforts to provide services and support to older LGBT people. Arcus grantees National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders played leadership roles in these efforts. Read more.
