Federal Policy Changes and Initiatives Protect LGBT Americans
Recent significant federal policy changes and initiatives have enhanced protections and services for LGBT Americans. President Obama has signed federal LGBT-inclusive hate crimes legislation into law. The US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced initiatives to ensure that HUD’s core housing programs are open to all, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. The US Dept. of Health and Human Services announced plans to establish the first national resource center to assist communities in their efforts to provide services and support to older LGBT people. Arcus grantees National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders played leadership roles in these efforts.
