and to ensure conservation and respect of the great apes.

The Arcus Foundation has revised the funding guidelines for the Arcus Gay & Lesbian Fund and the Arcus Great Apes Fund. Revised Funding Guidelines, effective in 2008, include:
  • A flexible "rolling" admission process for Letters of Inquiry
  • New funding priorities for each Arcus Fund
  • A more flexible EEO policy requirement
  • Quarterly grant awards.

The Arcus Foundation announced the appointment of Alvin Starks to the position of Senior Program Officer for the Racial Justice, Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity program. Mr. Starks joins Arcus from the Open Society Institute (OSI), an international operating and grant making foundation established by George Soros, where he served as Associate Director of the Racial Justice Initiative and Fellowship Program. This research study released by the Williams Institute provides demographic and economic information for same-sex couples and same-sex couples raising children in Michigan. The study shows that 18% of the 22,000 same-sex couples in Michigan are raising more than 7,800 children. The study also shows that same-sex couples with children have fewer economic resources than their heterosexual, married counterparts.
