The long-term survival of humans and the great apes is utterly dependent on how we respect and care for nonhuman animals and our shared natural resources. The Arcus Foundation seeks to improve respect for and recognition of the rights and value of the great apes and strengthen protection from threats to the apes and their habitats. In 2010, 32 grants totaling more than $8 million were awarded to organizations working to conserve and protect the great apes.
